<description>Old Movies are great. If there is one decent thing I got from my Dad...it's an appreciation of Action Movies from the 60s and 70s. The Robert Frost poem in that movie was used to activate "Sleeper" agents hidden deep in America. But that has always been the function of great Art...to get you to "Wake Up."
--After Marlon Brando as Fletcher Christian took over the H.M.S. Mutiny, he set up his colony of Mutineers on Pitcairn Island, he took a wife or two and settled down to "The Dull Round of Days." Like the cock crows, depression inevitably descended upon him. Young Fletcher Christian climbed the mountain and spoke with the Old Matriarch of the island to get the "Wisdom of the Elder." Her advice was simple, but it still rings in my ears. She put her hand on his shoulder and said: "You have to eat life...or life will eat you." Fletcher Christian took the advice and returned to England to "face the music," as they say. (Marlon Brando himself kept eating and eating and eating for the rest of his life, but that's just an aside.) But what force can propel us toward the Authentic Life with the same vigor and vim that we plunge toward death? Death in the abstract is not such a terrifying thought, but real the real meat and potatoes of Death...well that's another story. Perhaps cuddling up next to Death in her black dress for a short period of time can renew a love of Life. But, shit or get off the pot. Ask yourself deeply: "Do I really want to live?" We go down...we go up...we go down we go up. "We are like a bottomless Well, facing an Open Sky," Fernando Pessoa said. If your right hand offends you, you do not cut it off...you, uh, eat it...you digest it. Consume yourself and be reborn. The cure is IN the poison.
